So an ATM ate my card today while I was depositing checks, and I had to jump through 3 different telephone numbers to feel reassured that my checks AND my ATM card are safe. On a positive note, all 3 who handled me on the phone were more than friendly, so at least I felt like I wasn't being abandoned. But what do you do when you see the Windows blue screen of death while you're sitting in the ATM lane? I felt so helpless. We rely on technology for the convenience, and then when something goes wrong, you lose confidence. I wish I wasn't such a worry-wart. I got them to file a claim and I even called the actual bank branch I was at to see if they could do anything about it. They don't have access, it's a 3rd party company who handles the ATM machines, so really all I can do now is sit and wait. Imagine if I had depended on that $ to go through for some bills or something I had to pay, how SCREWED I would be. sigh. Oh technology, I still love you. I just wish there was a way I could avoid that small percentage of failure.
