So I was a little bummed and out of sorts yesterday and I turned to my friends for help.

To which I received some great afternoon "picker-uppers" that got me smiling again in no time. Trust me, I needed the boost.  Anyone else care to share something to cheer me up, please send my way.  I can always use a good grin or motivator.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Most people are aware breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and if caught early, you can help fight it. The importance of being "aware" about breast cancer, is being able to detect it early on.  Women especially, should screen themselves on a regular basis, from the comfort of their own home.  And it's recommended to go in for an annual exam after you hit 35, but young people are not exempt.  It can hit anyone, so that's why it's important to get checked out for any unusual lumps or formations.  I went in for my first exam in my twenties.  It may sound silly, because many times when you go into those offices, you see a lot of older women in the waiting room.  But I guarantee that it is always better to be safe than sorry.

My aunt, the 3rd oldest of four amazing sisters (my mom included of course!) was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this decade.  (I say unexpectedly, as if it is ever expected?)   Aunt B was always the fiery one of all my aunts.  She's the wild one who asked my mom and I to jump into the ocean with her naked, on a super cold and windy day, while we were casually walking along the beach.  To which my conservative mom and I both refused and just laughed and watched her as she went flying in.  Aunt B is also the creative one in my family which I kind of hope I take after her in some form, but probably never to her level.  She is a skilled poet 24/7, and a Chinese-character calligraphy instructor by day.   Oh, and finally, when I think of Aunt B, I always envision how she can catch a pesky fly that has somehow found its way indoors with her bare hands with one swipe of the air.  She never misses.  So this is really for my Aunt B, how someone as vivacious and talented as she is has the will to fight.   To continue to live her life in her spontaneous ways.  She's always fought so many challenges but still is able to remain optimistic.  Despite her unfortunate loser-husband who she simply refuses to let go of because she still sees the good in him, and despite the hardships of raising her beloved daughter who is inflicted with extreme OCD, and most recently, this diagnosis most would consider discouraging, yet she always pulls through.

So in honor of my aunt, I am here to spread the news to you - there are plenty of ways to educate yourself, and show your support.

I found this cool site running this campaign called Pink for October.  You can show your support by donating, or simply spreading awareness by converting your site to pink.

For those of you who watch Fringe, check out Massive Dynamic's website:  http://www.massivedynamic.com
This has potential for viral marketing by emulating a real company website.  There's buzz going around about whether the password protected employee log-in will eventually lead to something cool - they could potentially make this like a VIP area for true fans of the show and run with it from there.

I've only watched the pilot so far.  Elle gave me a heads up that Joshua Jackson still reminds her of Dawson's Creek, and that the show itself is an attempt to piggy back off possibly one of the greatest sci-fi TV shows of all time, the X-Files.  But I'll tell you this - this is NO Xfiles.  No one can replace Mulder and Scully, and shouldn't dare try.  Although, after sitting through it, minus the lame love scenes, and predictable outcomes, I was left semi-interested and will have to give the rest of the season a chance.  I like the dialogue.  I hope there are more of those, "Surprise!" twists in the plot type of elements added to it.

    Pictured below:

    1.  The Massive Dynamic website even has a careers section, I tried submitting my resume, to no avail.

    2.  A similar attempt at viral marketing through a real-life-mimicking website that I can recall is for the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". (Excellent movie BTW.)  Fans of the movie recall Lacuna, the clinic responsible for erasing your troubling memories.  You can play around with the site at http://www.lacunainc.com

I was on a solo mission for lunch today. Finding myself enjoying quality "me" time lately. I got the UNI-IKURA bowl which rocked my socks. This is basically sea urchin and salmon roe topped over a bed of rice. I love love love Japanese food.

My dad started me off young, he wanted to make sure I wasn't one of those picky eaters. His friend was a sushi chef who hooked us up with trays and trays of sushi. Once, his buddy demanded we have the house special, on the house. We didn't know what that was, and when it came out there were breathing shrimps smiling back at us, twirling their little whiskers around and moving. I was horrified. My dad, who has even laughed in the face of puffer fish, couldn't even deal with the "look at me, I'm still alive!" shrimps or prawns or whatever they were. It took only two seconds before my dad sent the plate back to the kitchen to have them battered and well done.

The weird part is, after you've actually seen the little guys fight for life right in front of your bare eyes, you remember their beady little eyes. Even after they came out fully cooked, now neither my dad nor I could justify eating them. We had just spent time with them in their live state for goodness sakes. We never ate them. Poor guys went to waste.

Anyway I still love sashimi though. I'd just prefer not to spend time with my food while they're still able to see and interact with me.

One of my favorite videos where an NBA player gets a little creative with some of his free time:

Bosh originally created this video to get more votes for the All Star game.  (Smart self-marketing, right?)
Kudos to these guys who do more than just get paid big bucks for playing NBA ball...  have fun while you're playing, and thanks for entertaining us!

I'm a sucker for live webcasts - Glad to see the NBA continue to partake in internet activities for the fans' sake.  Earlier today, the Orlando Magic hosted a live webcast of media day including interviews of the team.

They indicate September 29, 2pm on the site but no reference to time zone- I must've missed it (being in Pacific Standard Time), maybe they meant Eastern Time (makes perfect sense, since Orlando's out east).

Anyway, it's still posted up on the site, not sure when, but the video may be available at some point later (today?)  www.nba.com/magic

A new episode of Heroes airs tonight on NBC 9/8c.

Last week's episode was fantastic!  My favorite part was Sylar and Claire's scene in the house.  It felt like one of those scary movies, where you're begging Claire to "look out behind you!"

    "Are you gonna eat it?"

"Eat your brain? Claire, that's disgusting."

One should not have to suffer on a Friday of all days. When I'm free, I will refrain from gouging out my eye and proceed to enjoy this lovely weekend.

Hope you do the same. TGIF!

My heart skips a beat to:
That really good song that you can put on repeat without getting tired of it, the perfect swish from nothing but net, bright colors that scream attention which I don't like to bask in, cars that remind me of cartoons, the right sneakers for every occasion, the honest "I've-missed-you" look my dog gives me when I come home, a quick run in the dark imagining someone is chasing me, anything kawaiiiiii, frozen desserts of many fulfilling kinds, heroes or arch-nemeses, life ambitions and carpe diem actions, exercising brain power, exploring So Cal, and eating food that is yummy-yummy, in my tummy. Did I mention I'm a web-junkie? Long live internet!
