This is one movie series I wish wouldn't come to an end. I would however vote to put a stop to all those Final Destinations and Saw 2, 5, 132, whatever.
Aside from Submarine possibly being my favorite movie all year (I'm a sucker for quirky comedies with teen angst in the first person perspective), the soundtrack is refreshing. Win, win.
First, let me just say Marion Cotillard was beyond exceptionally lovely in this film. Watching her on-screen truly took me back to another era. I often say women in the modern day simply can't compete with beauty of the past. Today, people can fix up their look with plastic surgery and all sorts of photoshop trickery in magazines.. but those women from past eras were authentically exquisite from within. They didn't have to botox their faces to look the way they do. Marion Cotillard reminds me of this natural, unaltered beauty. She has a twinkle in her eye, a slight smirk in her smile that borders friendly and mischeivous all at once.
Now.. on to the rest of the film which I adored.
Who doesn't love Paris? Actually, one of my friends who has visited France-a-plenty has made it seem France is overrated. But the non-tom-boy (which is rare) girl inside of me got suckered into thinking Paris is a city of romance, love, quaint cafe's, delicate pastries.. maybe I am delusional but Midnight in Paris emphasizes that feeling.
Without spoiling the movie for you, fall into Midnight in Paris with an appreciation of literature and quick-witted comedy. I personally apprecaited this movie because of the smart literary references and how a fantastic night of romping around the city awoke him from his deluded relationship. Sometimes you don't see things for what they are when you're engulfed in it. Perhaps sometimes it takes an unbelievable adventure to pull you out of your current state - to realize there's a greater love inside you than you think. On a smaller scale, maybe the lesson here is.. never settle. And last but not least, bravo for Adrian Brody's rhinocerous-exclamation point!
Normally I like movies with substance..however.. one can argue this movie has substance.. while I would say sometimes I just want to watch something stupid-silly that will make me laugh for no apparent reason.
Besides.. James Franco (hot), Natalie Portman (hot), Zooey Deschanel (hot).. I rest my case.
When Friday comes around, I just want to laugh off the rest of the week to kickstart the weekend!
Perfect way to kick it off.. my sis sent this video, because once our niece is old enough to date, I'm sure some of our protective uncles will be handling their business at the door as well, haha.
Natalie Portman - Isn't she the woman all men want, and all women wouldn't mind being? Phenomenal actress in what appears to be a must-see movie. Intriguing. Slightly haunting. Disturbing. Jogs my adrenaline. Can't wait to watch this one.
