Insert the Proclaimers - "500 miles" song here.  (Anyone a fan of Benny and Joon?  A classic.)

Anyway, I've recently been reading articles about Ultra Running, and just to give you a taste of what it's all about:

It's amazing, you know?   I've completed 3 marathons, and that is probably the proudest thing I've ever accomplished in my life. But I can only imagine...completing 100 miles?  The part that intimidates me the most is the fact that there is no obvious closed-off course paved off for you - Ultra runners run through such rugged terrains...  All I can say is, "Wow!"  I read this article where this one runner developed rock-hard blisters a quarter of the run, and he had to run on those painful blisters the rest of the way!  Well obviously, it's not like he has a choice.  Can you imagine?  100 miles, in twenty-some odd hours.  It perplexes me so much that I wonder if I could ever do it?  If I could run 100 miles straight????  They say if you put your mind to it...     Could you?
