What's your favorite search engine?  I notice some of the 'older' folk or less-techie prefer using Yahoo or MSN Live to search online (correct me if I'm wrong).  But I am a bonafide Google-whore.  It's my homepage, and it's like my resource for everything.  I convert things, I define things, I translate things, Google is my little internet concierge.  If only it could vacuum and pick up my dry-cleaning, too...

Anyway I stumbled upon Cuil (believe it or not, it's pronounced "Cool"), which apparently is an attempt at outdoing Google at the Search Engine.  If this is old news, forgive me, as much as I like to try and keep up with the times, it's so easy to fall behind.   Anyway, I have to say, I like that it tries to reorganize the actual results page to something that is a little more structured, categorized..  and while I like to think it's a smarter interface, I'm not sure yet whether I like it this way.   The concept is there.  I definitely am an advocate of more logical ways to lay out your info - but I guess I'm not sure if their methodology is to my liking. (yet) I do like that there are some images tied to the results, especially if you have an idea of what you are looking for.  Visual recognition is always a plus in my book - you can accomplish a lot with icons, imagery, screen caps, diagrams... that plain text may fail at.  But then again, I'm a girl who eats words for breakfast, thrives off of details, and seemingly has an addiction for writing in excess so I don't have a problem with all the text summaries that Google results bring up.  At least there's potential.  And I'm sure Google won't idly sit by without exploring alternative solutions.

This is a great example of American's foundation built upon capitalism and freedom- my belief on why the US is a success.  Competition!  Options!  While it's tough for someone to come up against a giant in the industry like Google itself, if no one challenged them, there would never be demand for improvement. I know, now I'm spitting out like grade-school economics.  But it's true!  Something so simple like competition, results in (hopefully) improved products/services, and so much more to choose from.  The other day I went to the grocery store and I just gawked at all my options sitting on the shelves.

So while Google may still be the champ (in my book anyway), now all the more reason for Google to continue to bring it strong!  And I commend Cuil too, because it's worth a shot.  Sure, why not?
