..for Apple fans anyway.
*** UPDATE **** I got my first app to work! YEAH! I knew Apple wouldn't let me down.. Thanks to my friend's suggestion, I proudly swing my Phone Saber around. ****************** Here's my earlier post if you didn't read what the commotion is about. ********** Today's the big day, Apple released the new 3G iPhone, where eager-beavers have been camping out and lining up outsides Apple stores nationwide. And with it, of course current iPhone owners were also impassioned about the release of the new 2.0 firmware update. And now that there are issues with both, we're all kind of on stand-by mode, waiting for everything to smooth over soon - See Gizmodo's take on what they describe as the "iPocalypse" Frustrated, no, more like pissed-off Apple users are stuck with an inoperable (except for emergency calls) phone. And as Apple users are now chickens running around with their heads cut off, Apple is probably dealing with the complete opposite of casual Fridays, busily working to restore Apple world-order. Actually, this is the exact reason why the company I work for refuses to launch any critical web updates at the end of the week - simply because if something goes wrong, our team does not want to work over the weekend to fix it. Yes, it is always better to assume there will be a worst case scenario, even for Apple, who we've come to trust and know as the company that strives to make your computing life as easy as possible. It's quite amusing to me, to see that the internet is now such a wide avenue of communication - as soon as something goes wrong, it never fails for the public to vent their frustrations first thing, online, somewhere, anywhere. And what's even better, is that by doing so, it opens up feedback from others which maybe a) makes you feel better knowing you're not the only one going through this, b) gives you hope that someone will respond with the anecdote to solve it all, or c) wonder if Apple will listen to you and take your feedback into consideration to help improve the process in the future. I think it's great! More power to using the internet as a medium of communication for all the above reasons. If you haven't run into an Apple-related blog or tech-news site that is covering the mayhem of today - you may possibly be living under some sort of rock. If you're reading this and assuming this has affected me personally, well, by-golly, you must be nothing short-of-genius. The irony is, I didn't want to install the beta/zip version that was floating around the internet yesterday, because I was scared it would be buggy. I thought it would be better to wait for the "official" release so everything would work to perfection. I foolishly was one of the victims to trying to update while thousands of others are under the same notion - and am staring at my iPhone which seems to be one of THE things I can honestly now say I don't want to live without. If there was a better thing out there that allowed me to stay plugged into the internet all the time, I would probably look into it. But for now iPhone IS that thing. I'm suffering some sort of withdrawal right now. I can't even post a picture of what I'm going through to share with you since it is my iPhone I would rely on to provide you those pictures. A colleague approached my desk to see if I could hook up his iPhone to my iTunes, because apparently, his update went through, yet, now it refuses to show his iPhone on iTunes. Maybe Apple needs to update iTunes again. Not sure. Well, he's been on it since 8 in the morning though, I didn't start mine until 10. So I guess that's the next stage I can look forward to. Not much relief yet. Alas, I have faith in you, Apple, even though so many others have used this as an opportunity to blast you with resentment and question things such as how this will affect Apple shares. I understand, nobody is perfect, things happen. All we can do is sit back and wait. If Apple can rescue us from this swamp, there's hope for the future of computing afterall. On another let's-look-at-the-glass-half-full note, don't forget all the cool little apps we'll be able to use, eR, once the update goes through. Let's Go, Apple!
